Buenos Aires, February 12 (NA) – National deputy for Unión por la Patria Julia Strada announced her intention to abstain on the bill to ratify the trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, signed on January 17 in Asunción. She considered it a 'fast-track vote' imposed by the Government that 'does not guarantee a substantive debate.' 'I will abstain from a decision that is clearly a trap,' she stated. 'Additionally, I will propose urgent hearings with the sectors, urgent technical reports, one by the Congress's Budget Office, an implementation plan if this moves forward, and I will propose that the Argentine Congress has the faculty to safeguard its agricultural and industrial products.' According to the Argentine News Agency, the Kirchnerist lawmaker demanded to discuss President Javier Milei's 'industrial policy,' which she harshly criticized for offering a horizon of primarization that renounces the country's productive capacities. 'Is the idea that bulk Italian wine will be more competitive than Mendoza's wine, as I think will happen?', she hinted. For Strada, 'this agreement should generate the opportunity for this Congress to debate productive policy' and affirmed that 'this is a fast-track vote that does not guarantee a substantive debate.'
